I returned to Fukuoka to celebrate the 88th anniversary (the special age in Japan) of my grandpa together with whole family and relatives.

How wonderful that both my grandparents and parents are well!! I appreciated again to be a part of a “normal” family. Being normal is now pretty difficult in our time, you know.

And I celebrated my ??th birthday the other day, too!

I usually have a party at my place to invite my best friends and serve them in order to express my gratitude. Yap, b-day is the day to say thank you to everybody!!

Also, I ponder over my being on this day. We all are unique beings. There is no one on the planet who is exactly same with me from the very beginning to the end of the human history. Humans are not the mass products. This shows how much important each individual is to our God. Our existence has an infinite value!!

So, we shouldn’t be pessimistic over ourselves. If we know how much valuable we are, our life will be filled with constant gratitude.

Tonton

A mail from my mom during the lunch time. A picture was attached to it. It was Tonton!! A stuffed puppy that I always slept with during my childhood. I didn’t know that my mom has kept it up to now. What a surprise. Gonna sleep together again with Tonton when I go back to Fukuoka : )

Last night, a monastery in Nagano where I used visit often suddenly came to my mind. There was an old American priest. Father Niel. Neil Laurence. He contributed especially for Japan after the WWII.

Graduated from Harvard, he first worked as an executive at an international trading firm in US. When the war began, he joined the Navy then stationed in Japan and worked for GHQ as a high raked officer. However, saddened by the misery of the war, he decided to offer the rest of his life for the world peace and returned to US to became a diplomat at DOS. Later on, he became a monk at the Benedictine and came back to Japan where he spent his life until he passed away at the age of 96. He taught at several famous universities in Tokyo, bridged between Japan and US in various occasions, served for the refugees and spread the Japanese culture, especially “waka” to the world. His activities were well recognized and he received honorable medal from the Emperor.

Although being such a great elite figure, Fr. Neil was a little cute grandpa for me. So humble, so calm and a bit lonely grandpa. Whenever I visited the monastery, he was always excited and treated me as his real grandson. It was his pleasure to chat with me. I still remember his pruned but big warm hands. I wish I could have been able to visit him more often while he was alive

November is the month when he passed away. Maybe he is talking to my heart from heaven. Please keep watching me from above, Fr. Neil!!

Rent

I went to see the Broadway musical “Rent” on Sunday.

The previous stages were in 2008 and I couldn’t believe that it had been 2 years since I last saw the show. While I was watching the musical, many memories came back to me, especially the journey to NY to check the real “Rent” on Broadway together with Yujiro Shirakawa who is now playing Benny.

The great plot, the beloved songs of “Rent” and the energetic acting of each cast made me so thrilled and gave me goose bumps!! Yujiro is now very Benny and I really think that he is blessed with acting.

I visited backstage after the show and chatted with Yujiro. Since “Rent” is no doubt a huge show, there were many many fans who were making a line at the backstage door and waiting for the favorite actors to come out. When I went out the door, all their attentions were set upon me who was not an actor at all!! How embarrassing… Sorry folks!!

I guarantee that you would not be disappointed by 2010’s “Rent”! Much more dynamic and powerful than 2008's "Rent"!! If you are around Tokyo area, go and check the show!!!

P.S. The top image is a Yujiro's shot that I took at backstage. Isn't it artistic?? : )

November is the month when the good-looking folks are given birth. Why? Because I was born in this month : )

By the way, I could see the beautiful Mount Fuji clearly out of the train window on the way to work this morning. The crisp transpiring air of winter is definitely coming to Tokyo.

I’ve been a bit sick for quite some time and I didn’t want to go out during the weekend. But I visited to kick back at the pad of one of my best friends, Yujiro Shirakawa. He’s been acting on stage for the Broadway musical “Rent” since October and he can only take a day off every week. So, it’s been a while since I saw him last.

We shopped at COSTCO, went to public bath and hund loose at his apartment together with Mikan-chan(his cat). It’s not some special way to spend the holiday, but I could refresh myself very much.

I re-realize how much it is precious and important to share the time together with an awesome buddy and how much it is blessed to have such a great friend. I am thankful to the Lord for all the blessings he grants me throughout my life.
